But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says:

“When he ascended on high,
    he took many captives
and gave gifts to his people…”

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.  -Ephesians 4:7-8, 11-13

When you trusted Christ, more happened than forgiveness. You were welcomed into what we might call God’s gifting program.

In Ephesians 4:7, Paul tells us that “grace was given to each one of us” and that Christ “gave gifts to men.” He goes on to describe how God supplies leaders and servants to equip His people so that the body of Christ may be built up and matured. Salvation is not just rescue from sin — it is entrance into a Spirit-filled, grace-supplied life.

In God’s gifting program, He does three beautiful things.

God Is the Gift

The first gift is not an ability. He is a Person.

When you are saved, God gives you His Holy Spirit. This is God in you. He draws you closer to the Father. He teaches you. He comforts you. He assures you that you belong to Him. Through the Spirit, you commune with God now — and you will enjoy Him forever.

You are not left alone to figure out your calling. The Spirit walks with you. He talks with You. He leads, guides & directsyou. He rebukes and redirects you. He protects you.  He gives you joy, peace, perserveance, tolerance, meekness. He will never leave you nor forsake you – you are not alone!

God Gives Gifts

Through the Holy Spirit, God supplies each believer with spiritual gifts. First Corinthians 12 reminds us that there are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. These gifts are given “for the common good.” Romans 12 describes several — serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leading, showing mercy — and urges us to use them faithfully.

Notice the beauty here: God does not gift everyone the same way.

Like parts of a body, we are different by design. Some speak. Some serve quietly. Some organize. Some comfort. Some lead courageously. Some give generously. The Holy Spirit not only distributes these gifts — He empowers their use. He nudges. He prompts. He strengthens.

Perhaps your life experiences have already revealed natural abilities — compassion shaped by suffering, leadership forged through responsibility, wisdom gained through hardship. When surrendered to the Spirit, those abilities can become channels of spiritual blessing.

Ask Him to show you what He has placed in you.

God Makes Us Into Gifts

Here is the most tender part of God’s gifting program: the Spirit is not only a gift; He doesn’t merely give us gifts — He makes us into gifts.

The same Spirit who draws you into fellowship with God also draws you into fellowship with others. He shapes your character. He softens pride. He grows patience. He forms Christ in you. Over time, you become someone who strengthens others simply by being present.

Ephesians 4 says the goal is maturity — “attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” That means we are growing up together.

God does not save isolated individuals; He forms a family.

You are a gift to the body of Christ. And the body of Christ is a gift to you. Through one another, we are encouraged, corrected, supported, and loved. In this way, God does not leave us or forsake us — He surrounds us.

Today, receive the Holy Spirit’s presence again with gratitude. Yield to His direction. Ask Him to reveal your spiritual gifts. Step forward in simple obedience where you sense His leading.

You are included in God’s gifting program.
He has given Himself to you.
He has placed gifts within you.
And He is shaping you into a gift for others.

Let Him.
